How to Keep Your Deck Looking New for Years

Keep It Clean

The single best thing you can do for any deck is keep it clean. Sweep off leaves and debris that trap moisture, and wash the surface a couple of times a year. For wood, this prevents mildew and slows graying; for composite, it's usually all the maintenance you'll ever need.

  • Sweep debris regularly
  • Wash 1–2 times a year
  • Keep gaps between boards clear for drainage

Seal Wood on Schedule

Wood decks need to be re-sealed or re-stained periodically — typically every couple of years depending on sun exposure. A simple water test tells you when it's due: if water soaks in instead of beading up, it's time. Staying on schedule prevents the cracking and graying that lead to bigger repairs.

Catch Small Problems Early

Give your deck a quick once-over each year: wiggle the railings, look for popped fasteners or soft boards, and check where the deck meets the house for signs of moisture. Catching a loose board or a small framing issue early keeps it cheap. If something looks off, we're happy to take a look — call (956) 555-0148.
